Introduction to the LKP

Differences from Linux

The LKP provides a Linux application runtime environment along with Linux libraries and user-level commands, but the LKP uses the UnixWare 7 kernel. There is no Linux code in the UnixWare 7 kernel. Rather, Linux kernel functions are provided by the UnixWare 7 kernel.

Most Linux applications will run properly in the LKP, but only UnixWare 7 kernel and data structures are used. This means that most system administration must be performed using UnixWare 7 tools and commands, and Linux applications that depend on a Linux kernel module will not work. See ``Limitations''.
