Installing Linux applications

After installing the LKP and associated Caldera OpenLinux RPM packages, you might want to install additional Linux applications from other sources. Linux applications are packaged in a variety of formats: RPM packages are the most common, but you might have to run an install or setup program, or extract a cpio or tar archive.

Generally, to install a new Linux application, you should be in Linux mode, and follow the instructions that come with the application. If you don't have instructions, you can usually assume the following:
