Limitations
Unfortunately, some Linux applications are dependent on
details specific to a particular Linux distribution.
Such applications will not run on other Linux distributions, or on
the LKP.
Likewise, some applications that circumvent standard APIs might not run
properly.
Limitations include:
-
Any application that depends on a particular Linux kernel module
or tries to load its own kernel module(s) will not work.
Dynamically loadable kernel modules
cannot be used in the LKP environment.
-
Any application that attempts to create a Linux filesystem will not work.
-
Any application that attempts to modify the network stack will not work.
-
Most Linux system administration tools and commands will not work
(most system administration is performed from UnixWare 7).
-
It is possible to run Linux daemons that support services
like cron, sendmail FTP, telnet, and httpd, but this is not recommended.
These capabilities have not yet been fully tested and results may be
unpredictable.
-
Native Linux device drivers cannot be used with the UnixWare 7 kernel, and
not all Linux devices drivers have a UnixWare 7 equivalent.
If a Linux process attempts to access a device driver
for which there is no UnixWare 7 equivalent, the process might
display an error message or fail.
